Helping Communities to Help Themselves
Drugs are the biggest scourge and threat to any civilised society. They hasten the break up of families and help strip a person's pride and respect for all others within their community. Drugs cause immeasurable damage to families and help destroy the civilised structures of our society. They affects all social classes and have the same devastating effects irrespective of what social class you belong.
Look around you, violent assault, death, damage to property and attacks on elderly people, when are we going to call a halt to all this? In times past we could take a nice quiet stroll down the road at night without the fear of ending up on a hospital bed. The lives of innocent law-abiding people are being taken before their time simply because the thugs in our society have no fear of the law. Manslaughter is now the in-thing. Kick a person to death, stab the person until he or she looks like cheese and then cry manslaughter. Plead how sorry you are and that you will never do it again, you are bound to get a four year jail sentence with the first two years suspended for good behaviour. The victims family are left in the courthouse with dropped jaws as the guilty swaggers away for a two year holiday.
The work of An Garda Siochana cannot be give a value, the dedication and commitment by members of the force in keeping our streets free from drugs just cannot be quantified. But the Gardai are not a stand alone force, their deep involvement in community means that everyone of us are part of a bigger and deeper system of law enforcement. Everyone one of us are the eyes and ears of effective law enforcement, everyone of us have a job to do in helping keep our streets safe and our families protected. The recent haul of drugs by the Garda drug squad and customs officials tell us that we cannot just simply sit back in hope that it will all go away. It is time for every person, on every road, on every street to do their part in helping to rid our country of the scourge of drugs.
If you have any information,no matter how small, if you see drug dealing on your road or know those who are involved in drugs, then contact the Gardai on the confidential telephone number, its as simple as that. No point in waiting until the drugs lords knock on your door, help stop them before they walk up the pathway to your home looking for your child. Act now before it is too late.
